Elevator Pitch
Culturs is a global, multicultural magazine for those “in-between” – liminal identities who straddle culture, race, ethnicities, nations and locations.
Tell us about your business. What inspired you to get into it, what you sell/service you offer, what makes your business stand out and how it impacts you, your community or the environment.
I grew up in 7 cultures; 5 continents with separated immigrant parents. I’m called a Third culture kid, but fact is I have 10 dimensions to my identity. This led me to create a purpose-driven organization with the goal to create community and foster human connection for those who don’t often interact with others who understand their points-of-view. Empowering communication at the intersection of hidden diversity and social justice is the hallmark of our community and foundation of our brand.
How would you use the FedEx Small Business Grant money to make a significant impact on your business?
Currently I use the gig economy plus a day job to fuel this endeavor. Volunteers help put it all together and hiring two half time people who could focus on daily operations and consistent marketing would take our publication to the next level. We hit our 4 year anniversary this month & launching a print publication on newsstands that’s eagerly anticipated by our audience. The funds will ease the cost, and bring consistency to our readership helping insure this important audience has a voice.
