Anastasiya Shpagina is a Ukrainian girl who has been dubbed ‘the real life anime girl’ by the media. This is due to her 5’2” stature, tiny waist, and her anime style makeup.
She has become famous for her constant anime attire and appearance and has gained fans around the world. Some of her videos, such as the one below, have reached as many as six million views.

This is just one, above and beyond, representation of how people assimilate parts of a culture, group, or subculture into their lives and who they believe themselves to be.
People who have lived in Japan know how looks such as these are more commonplace among their streets.
Anime is the Japanese name of a style of animation, and Manga is the Japanese comic counterpart. They both contribute to a prominent part of Japanese pop culture today.

Characters in these forms of Japanese drawings have large doe eyes and pointy, petite facial characteristics.
Inside Japan explains that, “The modern forms of Manga and Anime date back to drawing styles and techniques that emerged after World War II. Whilst the country has modernized and changed significantly since, many aspects of Japanese culture and values have remained the same, meaning that the characters and stories are still very much relevant to audiences of all ages today.”
One of the most well known Japanese animators is Hayao Miyazaki of Studio Ghibli.
In this video she shows viewers how to do a Flower Fairy make-up tutorial to achieve her over the top look.
Fun article! Didn’t know this girl was that popular. I think it would be a great idea to write about the Japanese Anime culture for the next article.
I have always been fascinated by anime and all the looks you see and makeup in anime. It has also been a dream of mine to visit Japan! I’m sure I will get there one day. Maybe I should try put some anime looks in the meantime. Awesome article.
I would have liked to see a few more pictures of the girl featured in the article! Otherwise it was a very interesting concept, and I would like to know more.
Hmm, believe it or not I’m a bit of an anime geek! I’m glad that you “hot linked” her Youtube page because I wanted to learn more after reading this article! ** Make sure that link opens in a new window though! 🙂 **
AH! Anime. It’s kinda cool and all, i see it as a style or lifestyle, but it’s also kind of creepy. I’m not certain what I would do if I saw her walking out on the street. No judgement though.. like I said- it’s a lifestyle.
