Our ideal candidate has developed and/or managed these student-centered services in tech-enabled, high-volume settings and has a strong grasp of online student engagement trends (with a desire to push the envelope on what these look like and could be). A perennial student advocate, this role will work cross-functionally to ensure Outlier students have access to on-demand, high quality and cost-effective support for their coursework and along their broader academic journey.
This role reports to the VP of Student Success and is a remote, full-time position.
What You’ll Do
- Contribute to overarching strategy and approach for engaging and retaining Outlier students in partnership with Student Success, Marketing (Lifecyle) and Product
- Define and execute against Outlier’s student success advising value proposition: review the end-to-end student experience (from prospect to alumni) and develop a scalable playbook for when, how and through what channels (internal and third party) students can access academic advising services
- Help drive student outcome optimizations: review data to understand the macro and micro trends of successful and unsuccessful students; contribute to cross-functional initiatives geared at keeping students engaged and on track
- Leverage student engagement data to identify at-risk students and real time interventions to keep students on track and successful
- Lead the academic support function within Student Success: manage a team of internal, student-facing subject matter experts (Tutors, Essay Coordinators, etc.) and advise on efficacy of third-party tutoring services to ensure Outlier students have access to on-demand, high quality and cost-effective help with their coursework
- Provide thought leadership on Outlier’s go-to-market strategy: partner with our Marketing and Partnerships team to define prospective student advising option, contribute to upcoming course selection and help develop student degree and transfer pathways
- Develop support infrastructure for the credit transfer process: increase effectiveness and reach of processes designed to help students navigate the process and drive visibility into transfer outcomes through student interviews, surveys and feedback loops
- Partner with Student Success and Outlier Leadership on student-facing policies: audit existing policies to ensure they are fair, up-to-date and achieve the right outcomes for students, Outlier and our school(s) of record; advise on new policies as appropriate
- Operationalize and promote academic integrity in the Outlier experience: evaluate and propose improvements to our existing tools (proctoring service), philosophies and policies to uphold integrity in an independent online setting
Who You Are
- 5+ years experience in Student Success, Academic Advising or related function in a tech-forward, high-volume environment (experience at multiple institutions a PLUS)
- 2+ years in a operational leadership role with people management experience
- Can speak not just to the “what” but the “why” of student-centered services with passion to redefine the ceiling of online learning experiences
- Fierce advocate for students with the ability to communicate their wants, needs and concerns to stakeholders across the company
- Technically savvy with the ability and appetite to master new applications, tools and software
- Strong analytical prowess – can blend qualitative and quantitative to drive insights and change
- Comfortable operating and collaborating in a fast-paced, remote environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, internally and externally
- Kind, curious and collaborative
