Since the beginning of his runway shows in 2006, the key concept around Telfar’s designs has been inclusivity. According to Elizabeth Segran from Fast company magazine, Telfar has through the past and current social and political landscape, made his defiance of gender, race, and class resonate with a wider audience.
Telfar’s clothing designs have since the beginning been genderless and made for everyone. His globally mobile line has become a great success over the years simply since it is made for such a diverse range of consumers. His show at NYFW has been continuously engaging for the audience, as it always incorporates concerts and this year’s show was no exception to that, making it not only, globally and culturally mobile but also vastly entertaining for all viewers of the show, bringing more attention to his key messages.
Runway model Diversity
New York Fashion Week is a celebration of unique creations that made it to these famous runways. As well as the clothing that is displayed throughout these runways made by talented designers, the models are highly critiqued by the audience of these shows. According to Stephanie Eckardt of W magazine, No fewer than nine of the 10 most booked models this season were women of color. New York Fashion Week has been recognized as the leading Fashion week when it comes to diversity in the shows, leaving Paris, London, and Milan aiming to follow in their footsteps.

2019’s New York Fall Fashion show has been a progressive step as according to the Fashion Spot, 38.3 percent of models who walked the 221 shows that made up the fall 2019 season were people of color. The 630,000 online viewers of the fall shows, as well as the many attendees of the shows, are then able to identify the importance of diversity as a permanent concept, rather than a buzzword to create more attention, as Stephanie Eckardt of W magazine discusses.
