On the show “This is Us,” Brown plays the character Randall who is an adopted black boy into an all-white family. This shows follows his life from when he was born to adulthood and how his life was impacted by being a person of color in an all-white family and a mostly white town.

Life as a Black actor in Hollywood
Brown has said that it’s been too long for black actors to not get recognized as they should. With the roles he has played, he has brought awareness to people of color and has taught people the importance of embracing where one comes from and their heritage.
In 2018, he became the first-ever black man to win best actor in a drama at the Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild Awards.
Since then, people of color have continued to be nominated for awards like this and have won too. However, Brown has talked about how it’s important that there’s still a long way to go for black people to get the proper recognition in Hollywood.
In a conversation on NBC News, Brown said:
Being black in this country… you get so used to not knowing for so long. … It’s a joy to know that it’s real. I’m real, is what it feels like.
Overall, Brown has made quite the impact on our society and continues to do so. He is a man that many can look up to and hopefully because of him, we can all learn to treat each other a little better and not discriminate one another based on one’s skin color.
He said it this way:
Hey, there’s nothing to fear here. I’m just like you. If you prick me I bleed. My blood is red just like yours. Let’s find the common ground.
