oprah

I’m sure you have seen all of the videos going viral lately of people dumping buckets of ice water over their heads as a way to promote ALS awareness. Celebrities from all over the world have contributed to this viral craze for a cause.

What is the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge and what exactly is ALS? ALS, which stands for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, is a disease that affects the functionality of the muscles, causing them to shut down and eventually leads to paralysis. The purpose of the icey water is that it causes your muscles to clench up from the cold, which is a similar feeling that ALS causes. The point of the challenge is to nominate your friends within 24 hours to spread awareness of the disease, or donate $100 to the cause. Celebrities, as well as citizens, have been doing both the challenge, and donating to the cause, which has resulted in millions of dollars being raised for the cause.

Haven’t done it yet? Now it’s your turn, Culturs.guru nation. Film yourself dumping a bucket of ice water over your head, and nominate 3 of your friends to keep the trend going. It’s all for fun and for a great cause. Make sure to hashtag #ALSicebucketchallenge and #strikeoutALS. You can also donate to the cause by going to www.alsa.org/donate.

Haven’t had your fill of the hilarious videos yet?? Check out these notable celebrities and the creativity they put into conquering the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.
