Sure, the relentless worship of a size 0 figure in popular culture sends a negative message to society, but we ultimately decide if we let such a message affect how we love ourselves.

When we are feeling down about our physicality, it is easy to feel like we are the only ones who have ever had these feelings.

The facts, however, do not lie. The stats featured on this chart are staggering. The vast majority is made up of those who are insecure in their body, rather than those who are comfortable in their own skin.

Think about it. Not all 97% of women are overweight, yet there is only a sliver of the population that hasn’t resolved to despise their body type.

This obsession with becoming thinner isn’t only situated in the states, contrary to popular belief. Body shaming happens worldwide, despite differences in cultures. These insecurities are also not limited to one gender.

Once we realize we are far from alone, we can help one another reach true body acceptance.
