A new movie starring Adult Third Culture Kid (ATCK) Keanu Reeves is coming out in theaters this October.
In “Good Fortune,” written and directed by Indian American actor Aziz Ansari, a well-meaning but rather inept angel named Gabriel (Reeves) meddles in the lives of a struggling gig worker (Ansari) and a wealthy venture capitalist (Seth Rogen).

According to Entertainment Weekly, Ansari and Reeves had never met before the latter was cast in the film.
“Keanu’s one of these guys who’s in pretty rarefied air,” Ansari says. “You don’t see him around. He’s still pretty mysterious. He’s one of the few guys who still has this real movie star aura.”
Ansari — for whom “Good Fortune” marks his directorial debut — invited Reeves to his house and cooked Indian food, according to EW:
I made him Indian food, and we hung out for a while, and he told me all these stories. And then we went to dinner a couple of times, and I tried to really spend time with him to get to know him a little bit so I could become comfortable around him.

In 2013, Ansari talked about developing his comedy act, using his family history (his parents’ marriage was arranged) as a starting point.
“I read a lot of articles about marriage, babies, online dating, etc.,” he told AV Club. “For example, I had a bit about arranged marriage, and I read all these studies they did about it to get some insight into it. I was surprised to learn that research showed arranged couples tended to be happier in the long run. That became a starting point for a bit.”
“Good Fortune” premieres in U.S. theaters in October. Check out the trailer below.
