Beneath the paradise island of St. Lucia, an ancient secret awakens, inviting catastrophic danger. The island’s only hope: a young girl and her new best friend, a giant mech.

“The Mighty Grand Piton” is a short film about a young British girl, Connie, who travels to the Caribbean island of Saint Lucia for her school holidays with her family. There, she accidentally awakens a giant robot buried under the Twin Piton mountains on the south of the island. This robot seems compelled to protect Saint Lucia but his origins are mysterious. No one knows where he came from or how long he’s been there. During the many years he’s lain dormant, The Mighty Grand Piton became nothing more than the stuff of legend.

“The Mighty Grand Piton” is the brainchild of Wesley Louis, born in the UK of Saint Lucian heritage.

Connie, whose character is based on an amalgamation of Louis’ nieces and nephews, is also an embodiment of his own experience of visiting the Caribbean as a child.

The story references his memories of growing up between two cultures, along with his love for shōnen anime – especially giant mechs!

The movie’s production company, The Line Animation, is developing a feature-length film.

In a recent Instagram post, Louis says:

“This really is a love letter to things I hold dear; my culture, my love of Japanese animation and my experiences being of Caribbean decent born and raised in Britain. Being able to fuse these cultures visually and musically is something I never thought I would see or need.”
