A New Marvel Comic Featuring Kahhori, An Indigenous Superhero, Is Due Out In November
If you saw season 2 of Marvel’s “What If…?” show on Disney+, one of the standout characters was Kahhori, a Native American woman infused with superpowers.
According to Marvel’s original description of Kahhori from the show:
“What If…? asks what would happen if the Tesseract fell to Earth and landed in the sovereign Haudenosaunee Confederacy before the colonization of America.
“The Tesseract takes on a new life and a new mythology, transforming a lake into a gateway to the stars and leading Kahhori, a young Mohawk woman, on a quest to discover her power.
“Written by Ryan Little (What If…? ), the episode was created in close collaboration with members of the Mohawk Nation like historian Doug George and Mohawk language expert Cecelia King to ensure cultural authenticity. The episode takes place in the Mohawk language and is informed by the history of the Akwesasne region in what is now upstate New York.”
In celebration of Native American Heritage Month, Marvel has announced plans to release a comic book series based on Kahhori.
“Kahhori: Reshaper Of Worlds” is written by Little along with Indigenous writers Arihonni “Honni” David and Kelly Lynne D’Angelo and drawn by Todd Harris, David Cutler and Jim Terry.
According to Marvel’s announcement of the comic:
“Chasing a threat out of Sky World, Kahhori lands in the fiery streets of Hell’s Kitchen! But culture shock’s gonna be the least of her problems as her strange adversary tears through time and space. Featuring exciting guest stars like Daredevil, Echo and Moon Knight, don’t miss this action-packed saga of one of the most exciting characters to emerge from the MCU!”
The first issue of “Kahhori: Reshaper Of Worlds” will hit stands on November 6.
