It’s starting to warm up in the Northern Hemisphere, and with nicer weather comes summer vacation! Summer is the perfect time for for Third Culture Kids (TCKs) to travel internationally to parts of the world they haven’t visited.

Whether it’s just a trip to visit an old friend or any adventure to a brand new country, many TCKs always have travel ideas in the back of their mind.

Here are five places that TCKs wanted to visit this summer:

Santorini, Greece

“I would love to go Santorini,” said Marissa Kozma, a  French-Canadian TCK who moved to the United States when she was 11. “Mainly because I’ve always enjoyed Greek food and culture. Also the caldera is supposed to be beautiful too.”

Travel to Montserrat, Spain

“I really enjoy hiking, hence why I live in Colorado, but I would love to go to Montserrat Mountain in Spain,” said Mexican TCK Margarita Amador. “Not really just for the hiking, I’ve always wanted to go to another Spanish-speaking country to see how our cultures are different, but similar because of our shared language, even though they do speak Catalan there.”

Travel to Turks and Caicos Islands

“I just want to sit on an island this summer, so I would go back to Turks and Caicos. It’s just so beautiful,” said Samantha Eaton, an International Business TCK who has lived in Germany and England. “We went a couple times when I was younger, and I loved just hanging out on Grace Bay Beach all day.”

Machu Picchu, Peru

“When I lived in South America when I was a kid, I was always so mad that we never visited Machu Picchu,” said Anna Platt, a U.S. missionary TCK who lived in Argentina, Chile and Brazil. “I remember learning about it before we moved out of the U.S., and because of that it’s always just been somewhere that has stayed on the top of my travel list.”

Istanbul, Turkey

“I would jump on a plane to Istanbul in a heartbeat,” said David Huddleston, a U.S. TCK who spent a large amount of his life in Finland and Germany. “I know to most people that sounds a bit crazy with everything that is currently going on in the Middle East, but I’ve heard the city is beautiful and bustling which makes me want to travel their during the summer for an adventure.”
