The World Photography Organisation recently announced the 2014 Sony World Photography Awards. The first place winnder under Arts & Culture this year was Viviana Peretti. Peretti is an Italian freelance photographer and graduate of the International Center of Photography in New York. A current resident of Colombia, Peretti specializes in photojournalism.
Dancing Like a Woman, the winner of the Arts & Culture Sony World Photography 2014 contest, is a photo collection that highlights the National Bambuco Gay Pageant where drag queens express themselves through dance.
An all black and white photo collection, Peretti focuses on interesting angles and movement in her beautiful images.
“The theme of ‘bambuco’ is love. The process of falling in love and courting in the rural society is expressed through the dance.”

I think it’s great to see drag culture transcend through other cultures and in other languages. In my opinion, everyone can understand the language of dance.
This is awesome! I love how you’ve highlighted the drag culture here, it deserves the spotlight because there are some incredible drag stars all around the world. Dance is such a great way to bring people together.
