She is so fancy, and you probably already know. Iggy Azalea is a hip-hop artist from Australia who is rocking the charts with her debut album, “The New Classic.”
Amethyst Amelia Kelly, known by her stage name “Iggy Azalea,” was born in Sydney, Australia and spent most of childhood in Mullumbimby, New South Wales, Australia. She started rapping at the age of 14 and at the young age of 16, she moved to the United States and resided in the south, which has influenced her music style. She raps with a southern-American accent, even though she has an Australian accent when she speaks. As a TCK, Azalea came to America to launch her career as a rapper, singer, songwriter and model.
When she embarked on her journey to stardom, she told Wowzamagazine, “I was drawn to America because I felt like an outsider in my own country, I was in love with hip-hop, and America is the birthplace of that, so I figured the closer I was to the music, the happier I’d be. I was right.”
She is recognized globally not only for her viral music videos, but also as the face of Levi Jeans, and the first non-American rapper to be on the cover of XXL magazine. Her album was released in April 2014 and made it in the top 5 on charts worldwide. Her hit single “Fancy,” hit number 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100. This was a big achievement for Azalea as it made her the fourth solo female rapper ever to hit number one. During the same week that she hit number 1, Ariana Grande’s song “Problem,” which featured Iggy Azalea, hit number 2 on the Hot 100.
As if that wasn’t already a huge accomplishment, The Beatles were the only other band in history to have their first two hits at number 1 and 2 on the charts simultaneously. Azalea also has the longest-leading number 1 song on the Hit 100 as a female rapper.

Sweet profile! I’ve been questioning my opinion on Iggy Azalea because she has been accused of appropriating hiphop culture because she doesn’t rap in her accent. It’s cool to know her accomplishments though!
