Massively multiplayer online games, better known as MMOs, are fantastic places to meet people because they’re filled with thousands of players from around the world. Here are 11 reasons why having friends in MMOs is awesome.

  1. You’re never lonely

MMOs aren’t called “massive” for no reason. Log on at any time of day, and someone will be on too. A study recently found that 76.2 percent of males and 74.7 percent of females had made good friends within a game. But platonic relationships aren’t all…
  2. LOVE IS IN THE AIR!

Did you know Canadian signer Valerie Anne Poxleitner, better known as Lights, met her husband on WoW? She’s not alone. Studies have shown 20 percent of MMO gamers have physically dated someone they met in an MMO.
  3. You can meet people from all over the world!

MMOs aren’t just an American thing or a Japanese thing. People log on from all over the globe.
  4. Learn new languages… kinda

Since you’ll be meeting people from all over the world, you can pick up some basic lingo too!
  5. You get to help them

And helping people feels good. Whether that’s with a raid boss or a life crisis.
  6. Lots of diverse advice

Friends are friends whether they’re online or not. If you have a problem and need some advice, you’re online friends will gladly help you out. The benefit of online friends is the variety of different people in your friend circle. You could be talking to an 80-year-old that has a lifetime’s worth of experience or an insightful 14-year-old.
  7. Hanging out on your time

With MMOs, you either log on, or you don’t. If you’re not online, you can enjoy some “me time” guilt free.

  1. Networking
