Women of all shapes and sizes have been fighting the battle of the bulge for as long as I can remember. Many women prefer to use a body shaper to help create the appearance of a perfectly smooth silhouette. Some people may gasp at this idea and say “I’d never!” However, there is is nothing new about this concept and this way of thinking has been around since the days of the corset. Women chose to use shapewear to help control their body fat problematic areas, cellulite indentures, and for a sense of feminine security. As a curvy girl, I grew up wearing a girdle to suck it all in and smooth it out. This unspoken rule was like a rite of passage passed on to me from my grandmother, to my mother, to me. It was a secret under garment that no one ever saw or talked about, but it was something that every woman in family used no matter what their size.

A lot has changed since the days of my childhood, and significant advances have been made in the design and functionality of intimate apparel. Just about everyone has heard of the brand SPANX, and this company has helped women everywhere to feel sexy, secure, and confident. The topic of shapewear is no longer the secret elephant in the room, but rather a conversational piece that everyone can speak freely about – even men. The SPANX brand has revolutionized the market with over 200 products ranging from slimming apparel and swimsuits, to bras, activewear, men’s undershirts, and now jeans.

No matter what your size, the universal battle of the bulge still exists and Sara Blakely, the Founder of the SPANX brand, is continuously developing new products to help conceal, hold, and control your bodies jiggle and shake. Her latest design now includes putting the skinny in jeans! Blakely is helping to tame a woman’s curves with patent-pending shaping waistbands, thigh-slimming construction, and butt-lifting design. SPANX currently offers two flattering woman’s styles at this time. The Signature Jean has an exclusive shaping waistband with side zipper to slim all around, a totally smooth front, no belt loops, no front zippers and no buttons. While the Slim-X Jean has a classic five pocket style with a hidden slimming system for shaping. SPANX brand jeans are only available in sizes 24-32 for the product launch, and the brand will be increasing its sizing in the very near future.

In March of 2012, Founder Sara was named the world’s youngest, self-made female billionaire by Forbes Magazine and one of TIME’s 100 Most Influential People. Headquartered in Atlanta, GA and opening retail shops across the United States, Spanx can now be found worldwide in more than 50 countries. In addition to keeping butts covered from Savannah to Singapore, SPANX also shapes the world by focusing on the company mission: To help women feel great about themselves and their potential.

  1. I love Spanx! People think skinny girls don’t need help but due to my Endometriosis condition we tend to ‘bloat’ quite badly and having people continuously mistake us for pregnant women, Spanx has been a life saver!
