The MTV movie awards were this past weekend, and many celebrities took home a golden popcorn statue. Mark Wahlberg was one of the big winners featured at the awards. Though he is an American, his ethnic background may surprise you.

Wahlberg’s father is half Swedish, and half Irish. His mother is of three quarters Irish, one eighth French-Canadian, and one eighth English descent. His first ancestor to immigrate to the U.S came from England to Massachusetts, which is where the Academy Award-winning actor was born.

According to bio., after several youthful indiscretions involving assault and racial slurs towards Vietnamese children, and a few of his black classmates, Wahlberg’s views on minorities in America changed and matured as he did. He is now one of many people who understand and appreciate coming from an extensively detailed ancestry. In addition to his ethnic background, Wahlberg’s career has taken him all over the world and made him an open-minded and experienced traveler.

Isn’t it interesting that even people who were born and raised in America can still have an interesting line of ancestors who come from all over the world? It can be surprising to find out that even the “natives” can be multi-cultural.
