Netflix’s short film “Anuja” tells the story of a gifted nine-year-old girl, alongside her sister Palak, as they work in a back-alley garment factory in India.

When a teacher offers Anuja a chance to attend an elite boarding school, the sisters will have to navigate challenges that test their resilience and bond, culminating in a decision faced by countless young girls worldwide.

“Anuja” is directed by Adam Graves and produced by Suchitra Mattai, Mindy Kaling (“Never Have I Ever”), Guneet Monga Kapoor (Oscar-winning documentary short “The Elephant Whisperers”) along with executive producer Priyanka Chopra Jonas.

Kaling says:

Anuja is a story that means so much to me — it’s powerful, hopeful, and full of life, just like the incredible young girls it represents. The film brings attention to crucial issues while celebrating resilience, humor and hope. I’m delighted that, with Netflix joining the team, the conversation will expand as it reaches audiences far and wide.
