A new book about Third Culture Kids (TCKs) has hit the market.

Living Abroad With Children

“Living Abroad With Children: Essays by Adult Third Culture Kids on Making the Most of a Child’s Life Overseas” features 24 contributors from France, Japan, Norway and the United States who share useful reflections for parents based on their lived experience as TCKs under the age of 18 with former addresses from Algiers to Frankfurt to Kathmandu to Oslo to Tehran and beyond.

Edited by Mary M. Muro, Jill P. Strachan and John R. Whitman, the book is meant to help readers “anticipate and prepare for some of the inevitable opportunities for your children to make the most of living abroad,” according to the publisher’s description.

“An overseas assignment is one of the greatest challenges for any family, especially if the children are under 18 years old,” the description adds. “Their experience living abroad will almost certainly open up lifelong advantages, and may also create certain insecurities. Topics include schools, culture, side trips, writing home, thinking mindfully and autobiographically, anticipating college and practical ways for children to survive, grow and thrive.”

“Living Abroad With Children” is available at no charge on Apple Books. The editors, however, do suggest donations to Cairo American College, Doctors Without Borders and UNESCO.
