The FIFA Women’s World Cup is still a while away, with the first round starting on June 7, 2019. However, the qualifying rounds have begun and that means it is time to start thinking about the international tournament. The FIFA Women’s World Cup is going to be hosted by France this upcoming year. The Men’s team from France won the FIFA World Cup in 2018.

France as a Host Country

According to fifa.com, France has hosted the World Cup twice already. The last time they hosted the tournament was in 1988 and their Men’s team won the championship that year. The 2019 bouts will be the country’s third time hosting.

France will have four different locations where the matches will be played: in are Grenoble, Le Havre, Lyon, and Montpellier.

The FIFA Women’s World Cup

The FIFA World cup has been an international tournament since 1930, according to the Britannica Encyclopedia. However, the FIFA Women’s World Cup wasn’t a thing until 1991. Topend Sports compiled a list of the champions since the tournaments inaugural year. It also shows who the runner-up of the tournament. Over the last seven tournaments, Norway has one championship and Japan. Germany won twice and the United States were victorious three times, with 2015 being their last championship. The chart also shows that Germany is the only country to win back-to-back FIFA Women’s World Cups.

While there have only been four different countries who have won the Women’s World Cup, there have been seven different countries that were the second place team.

Dan McGuire of actionnetwork.com created a graphic that shows what the most recent odds are that a team is going to win the Women’s World Cup. The United States are the favorites to win again in 2019. They are listed at +250 odds. The teams that are listed right after the United States are Germany and France who are listed at +350 odds.

If the United States wins the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, they will be the second country to win back-to-back trophies. However, Germany can become the second country to win three total championships if it can upset the United States team.

There is also an opportunity for France to get its first Women’s World Cup championship. If France were to win the tournament, it would be the second time in French history that they won the World Cup while hosting.

With a little over half a year before the tournament begins, there isn’t much excitement about the Women’s World Cup yet. As time continues to pass, the buzz will increase until the whole world is cheering for their country to take home the international prize.
