Moving from place to place may be difficult, but it doesn’t have to be unpleasant. You can greatly improve your environment by having a pleasant home. Too many people settle for bland or impersonal spaces because they can’t paint or put holes in the walls.

Make the most of your living experience with these helpful and practical how-to’s

1. Hang stuff

Instead of thinking of walls as something to enclose a space, turn the tables on conventions and use them to open your space up! If you can’t put nails in the walls, there are plenty of alternatives

2. You could hang artwork…

Hang meaningful things on your wall. Find something that speaks to you! Use original artwork if you have it.

3. Or a collage…

You’ve always wanted one. Go for it, they’re surprisingly easy to make.

Supplies can range from a printer and some tape to cheap found frames from a thrift store. They even make collage frames you can buy in an online store if you aren’t crafty.

4. Even a mirror…

A simple mirror can add some life to your space and open up the room.

5. Curtains

Use curtains instead of doors to add some fun and personality to your space. You can buy them at the store or even make them yourself after a quick run to your local fabric store or thrift shop.

6. Pillows

The definition of comfort, the more pillows you have the better. You can decorate these if you’d like.

7. Plants

Add life with a plant. If you travel a lot, choose a plant you can bring to a neighbor or friend’s house to take care of when you leave.

8. Storage

Get creative with your storage space, so you can hide the stuff no one should see, and display the things that have your name all over them, literally.

Posters, movies, books, knick knacks- tell your story with your stuff.

9. Furniture

Get some quirky furniture; anything shaped like a box is a no-go.

Thrifting is a great way to find cheap things that’ll make your space ‘homey’ or even to find inspiration for your next craft project. Find a local consignment store, its like real life pinterest.

10. Colors

If you can paint, do it. Otherwise you may at least try to nail down a color scheme and stick to it.

Find colors that make you feel happy or calm or peaceful. You can spray paint ANYTHING!

11. YOUR spot

Determine a place to unwind; this is the place in your home that is undeniably ‘yours.’ The spot where you unwind with a cup of tea at the end of a long day- it could be your bed or a comfy rocker.
